All jurors, petit or grand, receive the amount of $40.00 per day of appearance. They also receive 57.5 cents per mile (as of January 1, 2015) to cover travel expenses and we pay for public transportation, toll and/or parking. Each check covers the $40.00, mileage and any other expense allowed.
Policy Regarding Overnight Stays
On occasion, a federal juror may be authorized to stay overnight while serving in the United States District Court.
Such authorization must be obtained in advance from the Office of the Clerk. Authorization will be granted on a case-by-case basis.
Also, if the last day of court adjourns before 4:30 p.m., all jurors will be expected to return to their places of residence. In extenuating circumstances, a juror may be permitted to stay overnight if court adjourns before 4:30 p.m. Prior authorization from the clerk's office must be obtained.
If you are serving on the grand jury, the U. S. Attorney's Office should advise you the day before the last day of your session how late the final day will last so that you may make arrangements, if necessary, to check out of your hotel. If there is any doubt, and your hotel will not allow you to check out late, you are advised to check out the morning of your last day. You can then check back in if it becomes necessary.
