This is a notice of an opportunity to provide pro bono representation in a trial and all matters leading up to trial. The case is Demetrius Laredo Walker v. Herron, et al., Case No. 1:17-cv-079-MW-GRJ. The trial will take place in the Gainesville courthouse.

Plaintiff is an inmate in the custody of the Florida Department of Corrections. He claims that on September 28, 2016, while he was confined at the Mayo Correctional Institution Annex, he was sprayed excessively with chemical agents. Based on the incident, Plaintiff alleges that Defendants violated his rights under the Eighth Amendment and Florida state tort law. The trial date has not been set.

Public funds are not available for the payment of attorney’s fees. Fees in a limited amount may be recoverable under applicable law if Plaintiff ultimately prevails. See 42 U.S.C. § 1988. Limited funds sometimes are available from the district’s Bench and Bar Fund for the payment of out-of-pocket expenses incurred by an attorney providing representation of this type. Members of the district’s bar will be afforded access to the electronic docket without charge for the purpose of considering whether to undertake the representation.

An attorney who wishes to provide representation may contact Plaintiff directly and may enter the case by filing a notice of appearance. Plaintiff is currently serving a sentence in the Franklin Correctional Institution. Plaintiff’s DC Number is 139961. An attorney who wishes to appear should file a notice of appearance by May 24, 2019. A preliminary pretrial conference will be conducted by telephone as soon as possible after the notice of appearance is filed. At the preliminary pretrial conference, a trial date and schedule will be set that accommodate the attorney’s schedule.
