Preferences

1. Unless otherwise stated in a notice setting hearing, telephonic or remote appearances are allowed only with prior approval from Judge Cannon.
2. Unless otherwise ordered or requested, proposed orders are not required or necessary.
3. Unrepresented parties and counsel may contact chambers to check on the status of a pending matter or other procedural information.
4. Counsel admitted to practice in the Northern District of Florida may bring personal electronic devices into the courtroom.  All cell phones, however, should be on silent mode or turned off in the courtroom.
5. Unrepresented parties and counsel seeking to utilize any courtroom technology for purposes of a hearing or trial should contact the Courtroom Deputy to test the equipment prior to the scheduled hearing or trial.
6. All proceedings before Judge Cannon are recorded by the Court’s audio recording system.  Additionally, a court reporter will be provided for bond hearings and change of plea hearings when a court reporter is available.  For all other hearings, including civil hearings, parties wishing to have the presence of a court reporter must retain one.
7. Parties wishing to submit a courtesy copy of any authority relied upon may do so by delivering a binder to the court, in advance of the hearing, with the applicable authority (highlighted to pertinent sections), and a cover letter, copied to all counsel.
8. Generally, other than for changes of plea and unless requested otherwise by Judge Cannon, attorneys are free to stay at counsel’s table while addressing the Court but may also stand at the lectern.  Counsel should in all circumstances stand while addressing the Court.
9. If exhibits are to be presented during a hearing or at trial, the Court would appreciate a courtesy copy.
10. To set a hearing on a matter referred to Judge Cannon, the parties should select at least three dates and times and email those to Chambers or contact one of the law clerks. 
11. All requests for a new hearing date after a notice of hearing has been posted must be made through a motion to continue.

Discovery Disputes

1. Parties are expected to comply with their meet and confer obligations and in most circumstances a failure to do so will result in a denial of the pertinent motion.
2. If a dispute arises during a deposition that will practically prevent the deposition from continuing efficiently in a case assigned to Judge Cannon, the parties may call chambers to request a telephone conference.
